Prices without a mark come straight from EIA's weekly survey, which publishes individual states only for California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Texas, Washington. Diesel is published for California alone.
* Estimate: the state's regional weekly average, adjusted by the difference between its fuel tax and the average tax of the states in that region (EIA, July 2026 (revised)). Taxes are the largest known reason neighbouring states' prices differ, but local competition and distribution costs are not captured, so the calculators let you enter your own price.
† Alaska and Hawaii get the plain West Coast average. Their prices usually run well above it, so treat the figure as a floor.
